LINCOLN, Neb.—The center that Nebraska men’s basketball coach Doc Sadler had hoped could help lead the team is out for the upcoming season.

Sadler issued a statement Friday saying Christopher Niemann—the team’s tallest player at 6-foot-11—has again torn an ACL in one of his knees.

Sadler says the extent of the injury was discovered when the sophomore underwent surgery Thursday on the knee.

Sadler says Niemann will focus on returning to the team as soon as he can.

Niemann was recruited out of Germany, but was ruled ineligible last season because he was a member of a German club team that included some professionals.
