GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A trial is under way in Grand Junction for a former police officer charged in the accidental shooting of a co-worker at a gun shop.
Fifty-seven-year-old Richard Bacher (BASH’-er) is charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
The trial began Tuesday.
He’s accused of shooting Kenny Franklin in the stomach with a rifle in February 2008. The rifle had been brought into the store by a customer.
Bacher was a longtime Grand Junction police officer and also served as police chief in Delta.
