DENVER—A few hundred people at a health care rally in Denver heard Mayor John Hickenlooper talk about health care being a right, not a privilege.
They heard Wednesday night from a Denver doctor who says the uninsured patients she sees now include unemployed neighbors or those who have jobs but can’t afford care. Then they lighted candles and had a moment of silence for people who have died due to a lack of access to health care.
The umbrella group Health Care for America Now and the activist group MoveOn.org organized the vigil. A similar event was held Wednesday in Boulder.
Activists have organized hundreds of such gatherings around the country amid falling approval ratings for President Barack Obama and his health care proposals.
