Alcohol may have played a role and charges are pending against a driver after a semi crashed and rolled on Interstate 70 near Idaho Springs, closing the highway for about 12 hours.
Idaho Springs police said Steven Barlow, 49, of Montrose crashed the Western Express truck he was driving around 9 p.m. Friday, shutting down a stretch of eastbound I-70 overnight. Fed Ex parcels and diesel spilled into the creek.
Police said Barlow was driving too fast, lost control on a curve, hit a guardrail, went off the road and rolled into Clear Creek. Police suspect alcohol factored in the crash, but toxicology reports were not available. Barlow was taken to a St. Anthony hospital with moderate injuries. 9News
