While sluggers Ian Stewart, Seth Smith and Carlos Gon- zalez have grabbed the spotlight with their home runs, steady Todd Helton continues to produce in a quieter way. He drove in the Rockies’ first run with a two-out single in the third. He also hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh. He’s hitting .325, tied for third in the National League, and leads the Rockies with 77 RBIs.
Franchise record.
At 78-60, the Rockies are 18 games above .500 for just the second time in franchise history. The other high-water mark came on Aug. 25 when they were 72-54 before running into a five-game losing streak.
Gomes warning.
The Rockies had better be careful pitching to free-swinging Jonny Gomes. The Reds’ left fielder hit a two-run homer in the fourth off Ubaldo Jimenez. In four games at Coors Field, Gomes is 8-for-15 (.533) with two doubles, three homers and seven RBIs.
