An off-duty cop nabbed a suspected bank robber this afternoon after a chase through pedestrian traffic on the 16th Street Mall.
The off-duty police officer was working security at Premier Bank, 1630 Stout St., said Denver police spokeswoman Sharon Avendaño.
The alleged robber’s name was not immediately available, and Avendaño did not know whether he was armed, whether he got away with money or where he was captured.
He was apprehended within about a minute after the robbery was reported at 2:44 p.m., she said.
Sergei Krizenkoz had just gotten off work and was waiting near the 16th Street Mall light-rail stop with about a dozen people when he saw a police officer yelling at a man in an “obvious fake mustache and maybe a wig” to get on the ground.
Instead, the man ran away, Krizenkoz said.
“I froze, and then me and this lady ran across the street to get away,” he said.
