DURANGO — The body of a missing Ohio hiker has been discovered at the bottom of a 300-foot cliff in rugged wilderness in southwestern Colorado.
Searchers recovered the body of 21-year-old Joshua Gulvas late Friday following a three-day search.
La Plata County sheriff’s spokesman Dan Bender said Gulvas was found about 2 miles from where he was last seen while hiking with his father in the Weminuche Wilderness north of Durango. The Otterbein College student was reported missing when he didn’t arrive at a lake where the two were to meet Tuesday evening.
More than 35 people, including friends from Ohio who came to help, searched a 32-square-mile area in cold temperatures, heavy rain and lightning storms.
