DENVER—Jurors began deliberations in the trial of a man facing charges in the death of his 10-year daughter who was killed in a shootout during a break in at his apartment.

Leo Cisneros is charged with reckless child abuse resulting in the Nov. 26, 2007 death of his daughter, Auralia Cisneros, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted.

During closing arguments Friday, prosecutors say Cisneros put his daughter in danger by dealing marijuana out of his apartment, making it the target of robbers.

Cisneros’ defense attorneys accused police of planting evidence and chided authorities for focusing on the victim of a crime, and allegedly failing to properly investigate the source of the fatal bullet.

Three others pleaded guilty in the case and are serving prison sentences of between 16 and 24 years.
