One man was injured in a fire that spread quickly to the roof of a 12-unit building at Brookview Apartments in Fort Collins last night, authorities say.

Poudre Fire Authority firefighters were called to the two-story apartments at 1220 E. Stuart St. at 7:55 p.m. and saw flames and smoke coming out of one of the apartments, fire Capt. Matt Housley said.

Within two minutes, the fire was upgraded to a two-alarm fire and more fire engines were called, Housley said.

Seven minutes later, after firefighters spotted flames leaping from the roof, a third alarm was sounded, and a total of 53 firemen fought the blaze.

One person received minor injuries while fleeing the fire, Housley said.

Fire and water damaged seven of the apartment units.

All of the residents of the building either found shelter with friends, family or were provided hotel rooms by local charities.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and investigators will spend the weekend interviewing witnesses.
