:The winner: Wayne Carlson, Brush: Tens of thousands of Texas longhorn cattle passed through what is now Brush, named for cattleman Jared Brush, along Beaver Creek and across the South Platte River. Of the historic brands on the Texas Montana Cattle Trail Marker, particularly significant is the JB brand. Early settlers debating what to call their town decided to name it for “that guy who has all the cattle in the area.” He went on to become Colorado lieutenant governor.
