LONGMONT, Colo.—Police were justified in shooting a Longmont car chase suspect 16 times in the head, neck, shoulders and back.

Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett’s investigation report released Monday found no wrongdoing in the Aug. 10 shooting of 35-year-old Brian Christopher Naranjo. Garnett says three Longmont officers and a Boulder County sheriff’s deputy opened fire only after Naranjo raised a loaded .22-caliber revolver at officers.

Officers quoted by Garnett say Naranjo said he was concerned about going to jail and told officers to “do it” after they surrounded his car.

Naranjo, who sped away from police after a routine traffic stop, had a significant level of methamphetamine in his body at the time, according to an autopsy cited by Garnett.
