Whether you loved, hated or simply skipped the 2008 big-mountain skiing documentary “Steep,” adventure film enthusiasts will want to check out the story behind that story when it makes its world premiere in Colorado this week. The film adaptation of former pro mogul skier Bill Kerig’s acclaimed nonfiction book “The Edge of Never” traces the coming-of-age saga of 15-year-old Kye Petersen, son of extreme skiing legend Trevor Petersen, who was killed in Chamonix, France.
Through the guidance of mohawked ski icon Glen Plake, and a tribe of big-mountain masters, young Kye attempts to finish his father’s final run nearly a decade later. After documenting the soulful story along with award-winning producer Peter Schweitzer, Kerig returns to his Colorado skiing roots to launch a national tour in four theaters this week.
See it: 7 p.m., Wednesday at the Vilar Performing Arts Center, Beaver Creek; 7 p.m., Thursday at Speakeasy, Breckenridge; 7 p.m., 9:30 p.m., Friday at Starz Film Center, Denver; and 7 p.m., Sunday at the Aggie Theater, Fort Collins.
