DENVER—Four workers escaped a fire sparked by a welders torch in an underground pipeline at a Denver Water reservoir and pump station facility.
A team of expert firefighters fought the blaze Monday afternoon as it burned through 150 feet of pipe buried 15 feet under ground. It was extinguished after about 2 1/2 hours.
The workers, who were unharmed, were cutting holes in the 5-foot pipe at the reservoir in northeast Denver.
