Rep. Joe Wilson’s two-word outburst during President Barack Obama’s congressional address Wednesday has helped the South Carolina Republican and his Democratic opponent raise more than $1 million for their 2010 campaigns.
The amounts they’ve collected are more than either had for their 2008 contest.
Wilson, left, a five-term House veteran who brought in $893,218 for his last re-election, raised more than $1.3 million since he shouted “you lie” at Obama, the National Republican Congressional Committee said.
Rob Miller, a former Marine and Iraq war veteran who took in $390,535 when he ran against Wilson last year and lent his campaign an additional $235,000, has raised more than $1.5 million since Wilson’s outburst, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said.
In November, Wilson defeated Miller 54 percent to 46 percent.
House Democrats on Monday reaffirmed plans to take up a resolution as early as this afternoon scolding Wilson, with a vote later in the day. Bloomberg News Service
