MONTROSE , Colo.—Prosecutors have filed a motion to dismiss the case against a teen accused of plotting with another boy to slash a Montrose High School girl’s throat last year.

Montrose County District Attorney Myrl Serra says he doesn’t think his office can prove conspiracy charges against 14-year-old Andrew Brown beyond a reasonable doubt.

Brown has denied being involved in the attack last November on a 17-year-old girl who was stabbed from behind as she entered the high school. The girl has recovered.

Fourteen-year-old Michael Yates, charged as an adult, pleaded guilty in March to attempted murder and was sentenced to seven years in a youth corrections facility.

Serra says there was little proof that Brown met with Yates before the attack.
