DENVER—The first shipment of swine flu vaccine is expected to arrive in Colorado next week.

State health officials say Colorado will receive 53,800 doses of 2 million doses to be distributed nationwide. The state’s total share of the vaccine will be an estimated 64,000 doses.

The first shipment will be a nasal spray vaccine and will go primarily to Denver-area hospitals to vaccinate health care workers who have direct contact with patients and all public health agencies.

Later doses will be shipped weekly and include both nasal spray and doses to be injected.

Health officials say the people considered priorities for the vaccine include health care workers, pregnant women, children up to 4 and older children with underlying health risks.
