A disconcerting season-long trend continued Sunday. The Rockies tied a franchise high with 17 strikeouts. On Saturday night, they whiffed 12 times. The Rockies whiffed 1,277 times this season, the most in team history, surpassing their 1,208 strikeouts in 2008.
Fowler flies.
Although he played Sunday’s game with flulike symptoms, rookie center fielder Dexter Fowler went 2-for-4 with a triple. He finished the regular season hitting .266 with 29 doubles, 10 triples and four homers. However, he did strike out 116 times in 433 at-bats.
Dodger days.
After his team clinched the division title the night before, Dodgers manager Joe Torre turned over the managerial reins, making backup catcher Brad Ausmus manager for the day. “I’m turning the reins back over to Joe, if he ever shows up again,” quipped Ausmus.
