DENVER—Federal authorities are seeking an injunction to put a Colorado man accused of preparing fraudulent tax returns out of business.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Denver filed the request Tuesday for an injunction against Curtis Morris of Elizabeth and his business, Numbers & Beyond. The complaint filed in federal court accuses Morris of seeking more than $55 million in refunds through fraudulent tax returns for more than 140 customers in Colorado, California, Arizona and New Mexico.

Morris didn’t immediately return a call requesting comment.

The complaint alleges that Morris filed for refunds based on bogus income tax withholding information.
