A woman died in a “high-speed head-on crash” just east of Greeley this morning and at least two other people were rushed to the hospital.
The accident happened about 7:25 a.m. on U.S. 34, according to a media release from the Union Colony Fire Rescue Authority.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash, and firefighters worked to cut two victims out of mangled vehicles.
The wreck was so severe it took rescuers 25 minutes to cut out one victim and 15 minutes to free another, the fire department said.
A woman taken to North Colorado Medical Center died at the hospital and has been identified as Camille Vannoy, 48, of Gill.
Two passengers in Vannoy’s 2004 gold Dodge Caravan have been identified as Hayley Vannoy, 8 and Cicali Vannoy, 12 ,both girls were taken to Northern Colorado Medical Center. Hayley sustained serious injuries and Cicali minor injuries.
All members of the Vannoy family were wearing seatbelts.
The driver of a blue 1987 Nissan Maxima was identified as Taya Pettit, 21, of Greeley and the driver of a 2001 Ford Escape was identified as Keith Yoder,37, of Greeley.
Pettit sustained minor injuries while Yoder was taken to Northern Colorado Medical Center with serious injuries.
The cause of the crash is unknown and is being investigated, but authorities don’t believe alcohol or drugs were involved.
