Thursday’s a big day for Great Outdoors Colorado.

The agency will team up with Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper in the morning to celebrate GOCO’s 15th anniversary of awarding lottery proceeds for the purchase of open space and funding wildlife, trail and outdoor-recreation projects.

Denver has received $15.5 million of those grants, many of which have been used along the South Platte River. The event is at 9 a.m. at Confluence Park, just west of Little Raven Street between 15th Street and Speer Boulevard.

That night, the GOCO board will meet to discuss updating its strategic plan. The board will review a variety of issues raised in recent years, including whether land protection should still be a high priority, said Chris Leding, communications director for GOCO.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at REI’s third-floor meeting room, 1416 Platte St. The Denver Post
