A gas line leak in Greenwood Village knotted up traffic this afternoon for a time before crews capped off the ruptured pipe with no reported damage or injuries.

East Belleview Avenue was closed in both directions between South Dayton and South Boston streets, according to the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority.

The rupture was caused by a contractor who inadvertently “bored a hole” into a gas pipe, said Joe Fuentes, a spokesman with Xcel Energy.

The repairs took about two hours to complete.

Traffic around Belleview Elementary School, Campus Middle School and Cherry Creek High School was impacted for a short time, said city and school officials.
