A man is in jail in Denver on charges that he robbed an older woman who had just picked up her lottery winnings.
Leonard Bedon, 32, is being held on felony charges of robbery and theft from an at-risk adult, the Denver district attorney’s office said in a news release.
A 75-year-old woman turned in her winning lottery ticket on Sept. 17 at a grocery store. Investigators believe Bedon was in line behind her and knew she got cash.
As the woman was walking to her car, a man believed to be Bedon “jumped out of a truck, grabbed her purse and drove away,” the release said.
A witness noted the truck’s license-plate number, which led to Bedon’s arrest.
His advisement hearing is at 9 a.m. Thursday in Denver County Court. If found guilty, he could receive up to 12 years in prison.
