Exempla Healthcare will not challenge a deal that gives control of three Colorado hospitals to Sisters of Charity and forces the hospitals to follow Catholic directives regarding health care.

The Exempla board, which fought the change in arbitration and lost, agreed to it this week, “believing it will strengthen our access to critical capital resources,” Exempla president Jeff Selberg said.

The deal announced in August ended a four-year dispute over the sale of Exempla Lutheran in Wheat Ridge and Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette. Kansas-based Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, which controls St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, will have sole control of all three Exempla hospitals.
