COLUMBUS, Ohio — Goalie Marc Cheverie made 36 saves and Rhett Rakhshani and Drew Shore scored goals as the University of Denver beat Ohio State 2-0 on Thursday in the first game of a two-game series.
Cheverie turned away 27 shots in the first two periods, helping the Pioneers (2-1-0) to a 2-0 lead heading into the final period.
Rakhshani opened scoring with an even-strength goal against Buckeyes goalie Dustin Carlson at 10:43 of the first period.
Shore scored an unassisted power-play goal at 14:14 of the second.
Carlson had 30 saves for Ohio State (0-3-0).
The Buckeyes were 0-for-9 on the power play. Denver went 1-for-7.
