A 42-year-old man suspected of sexual assault on two women surrendered to officers Saturday afternoon after a standoff with SWAT officers at a Longmont apartment complex, police said.
Tim Lewis, commander of Longmont police’s detective division, said the two women reported to police about 1:15 p.m. that they had been assaulted at an apartment in the 3200 block of Lake Park Way and that the alleged assailant, Jimmy Travis, still was there and had access to a 9mm weapon and possible “military ordnance.”
The women had gone to the apartment about midnight Friday and were held captive until they were able to escape and notify police about the assault, Lewis said.
Residents of the Circle at Lake Shore apartments were evacuated during the standoff. They were not allowed back until about 8:30 p.m., after the Boulder County Bomb Squad had removed ordnance. Jeffrey Leib, The Denver Post
