A little more than a week after snow dusted parts of the metro region, Denver tied a record high temperature today.

The weather station at Denver International Airport recorded 84 degrees at 3:44 p.m., matching the warmest Oct. 18 on record, set in 2003 and 1958, according to the National Weather Service office in Boulder.

The average for the date is 65 degrees.

The warm weather is expected to hang around Monday, before falling to below normal, forecasters said.

Monday’s high in Denver, under sunny skies, could reach 80 degrees, with a low Monday night of 47, forecasters said.

The record high for Oct. 19 is 86 degrees set in 2003, according to the Weather Service.

Rain is possible in the metro region Tuesday, with a 20 percent chance of precipitation and a high of about 60 degrees. The low Tuesday night is expected to be in the mid-30s, according to the National Weather Service.

The high on Wednesday is forecast at 46 degrees with a low of 29. Thursday could see a high of 54 and low of 31, before temperatures warm to about 60 degrees Friday and Saturday, according to the forecast.

Red flag fire-danger warnings were in effect along the Front Range today from Castle Rock north to the Wyoming state line, as dry weather and wind created dangerous conditions, forecasters said. The warning is in effect until 8 p.m.

Oddly, Sunday kicked off the National Weather Service’s Winter Awareness Week, an observance declared by Gov. Bill Ritter to urge to review preparedness for the cold months ahead and consider safer travel and outdoor activities.
