Getting your player ready...

Close counts in horseshoes, or at least it should. And it finally did this week for Philip Davis, a 22-year old graduate student at the University of South Florida.

Davis was chosen at last week’s USF football game against Cincinnati to participate in a horseshoe toss the following night at a “Bulls Frenzy” basketball event, with a chance to win $10,000. At that event, he looked to have hit a ringer from about 70 feet.

After being congratulated by those on hand, he was later told he couldn’t claim the prize because his foot had been over the line and the horseshoe wasn’t close enough to the stake.

A weeklong review of the case, and a check of the videotape, led USF to change its mind and award the $10,000.
