University of Denver men’s basketball captain Nate Rohnert was chosen Tuesday to the first team of the Sun Belt Conference’s preseason squad.
The Pioneers were selected second in the Sun Belt’s West Division behind North Texas. Western Kentucky was the nearly unanimous choice to win the East Division.

The American Junior Golf Association named Wyndham Clark of Greenwood Village an honorable mention All-American. The sophomore at Valor Christian High School won the Class 4A state championship this month.

Inside College Hockey magazine named Denver goaltender Marc Cheverie the national player of the week after he posted consecutive shutouts in the Pioneers’ road sweep of Minnesota last weekend.
AFA wins Classic.
Air Force boxer Matthew DeMars stopped Army’s Terry Neil at 122 pounds to help lead the Falcons to the Service Academy Classic title in Detroit last weekend. Air Force went 3-0 against Army and 2-1 against Navy. Air Force’s Michael Mizes (135 pounds), Michael Dunn (154), Tyrus Korecki (158) and Nick Cataldo (171) earned victories by decision.
