GREELEY, Colo.—Former Colorado Senate President Tom Norton is set to become the next mayor of Greeley, barring a request for a recount by his opponent.
Final results from the Nov. 3 election show 7,416 votes for Norton and 7,357 for opponent Ed Phillipsen.
The 59-vote margin of 0.80 percent is higher than the 0.5 percent margin that would trigger an automatic recount under state law.
Phillipsen could request a recount if he bears the cost, estimated to be between $3,000 and $5,000. Phillipsen has said he would not force a recount if the automatic recount is not triggered.
City Clerk Betsy Holder says Norton is due to be sworn in Monday night.
