Getting your player ready...

FORT COLLINS — The quarterback-wide receiver shuttle of Colorado State third-year sophomore T.J. Borcky is moving back to quarterback, perhaps for good.

Originally recruited out of Orlando, Fla., as a quarterback, he excelled on the scout team his freshman year, moved to wide receiver midway through his redshirt freshman year and has since shuttled back and forth. He has six catches for 60 yards at receiver and has been listed as the third-team quarterback.

Borcky took more snaps at quarterback during the bye week. Players in the two-deep depth chart were rested while younger players practiced. A gimpy ankle kept Borcky from having more work at QB, according to coach Steve Fairchild, who acknowledged Borcky might go back fulltime in the spring.

“I am seriously weighing that and have been for a few weeks,” Fairchild said Monday. “He is a talented and tough guy. . . . I like him, I think he is a good athlete and throws a nice ball.”

Borcky might get some snaps from center in the final two weeks. Although incumbent Grant Stucker was pulled in the second quarter of the Rams’ last game, Fairchild said Stucker remains the starting quarterback for the trip to winless New Mexico.

Fairchild said the three practices for the Rams’ underclassmen don’t replace the opportunities of bowl game preparation, but at least gave the coaching staff a good look.

Running back Chris Nwoke, tight end Cameron Moss and wide receiver Vernon Scott were among the players singled out by Fairchild.

While there is some long- range optimism, Fairchild did not sugarcoat the Rams’ seven-game slump.

“We have regressed in some areas,” Fairchild said.

Falcons’ Clark in rush to shine

AIR FORCE ACADEMY — Things are happening pretty fast for Air Force tailback Asher Clark.

After an up-and-down early part of the season, Clark, a sophomore from Lawrenceville, Ga., reeled off three consecutive quality games as the Falcons became eligible for a bowl and lifted their record to 7-4 going into Saturday’s regular-season finale at BYU.

Three weeks ago, Clark rushed for 75 yards on 10 carries in a 34-16 victory over CSU. Two weeks ago, the 5-foot-8, 175-pound runner gained 82 yards and scored two touchdowns on 13 carries in a 35-7 victory over Army. Last weekend, Clark rambled for 160 yards and scored three touchdowns on 18 carries in a 45-17 triumph over Nevada- Las Vegas.

Clark was recognized Monday by the Mountain West Conference as its co-offensive player of the week, sharing the award with Wyoming quarterback Austyn Carta- Samuels.

“I just try to keep my legs moving,” Clark said of his running style.

Carta-Samuels led the Cowboys to a 27-24 road win over San Diego State. He completed 16-of-22 passes for a career-high 246 yards and a TD.
