Winter Park (Wednesday), Vail (Friday) and Eldora (Saturday) join the fray of early-season ski resort openings this week, getting a jump on the Thanksgiving holiday that in recent years has marked the unofficial start of ski season for a majority of Colorado areas.
But if it’s powder skiing you seek, Wolf Creek ski area is the place to be. The southern skiing spot known as the state’s snowiest picked up almost 3 feet of snow from the latest storm to pass over the Rocky Mountains last weekend. What’s more, Wolf Creek is 100 percent open and hosting one of several “locals appreciation” days Wednesday, featuring $31 lift tickets for anyone who shows up and declares himself or herself deserving (no ID required). Bring a college ID for the same deal during college day on Friday.
