GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A father of six children who pleaded guilty to causing the death of his girlfriend’s toddler has been sentenced to 32 years in prison.
Thirty-four-year-old Charles McEachern was sentenced Monday in a Mesa County court as the father of 3-year-old Miranda Baca wept. The girl died in June of 2006 after her mother, Tiera Morger, left her in the care of McEachern while she went to work.
Investigators said the girl died from blunt force trauma to the head. McEachern denied hurting her, but he was the only adult in the house when Miranda was hurt.
McEachern pleaded guilty in September to a charge of child abuse resulting in death. He later said he may have inadvertently injured her in a pillow fight.
