Because group shows at commercial art galleries can be easily overlooked roundups of the usual suspects, curators often try to come up with some kind of theme or other attention-grabbing tack.
The William Havu Gallery, 1040 Cherokee St., has devised just an imaginative hook for its latest offering, bringing together 12 of the artists it regularly represents who have works in the Denver Art Museum’s collection.
The exhibition, an updated repeat of a similar offering 10 years ago, is titled “12 Artistis in Common — Redux.” It includes 60 or so works by artists such as Jeff Aeling, James Cook, Susan Cooper, Sam Scott and Tony Ortega, who is celebrating his 25th anniversary with the gallery.
Styles run the gamut from the vibrant abstraction of Sam Scott to the impressionistic landscapes of James Cook to the pop-tinged sculptures of Susan Cooper, and the quality is similarly varied.
The show runs through Jan. 2. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Free. 303-893-2360 or . Kyle MacMillan
