Josh McDaniels was raised by parents who took him and his brothers to church every Sunday.
He is clean cut, with no addictive vices other than work. He still holds hands in public with his wife Laura, and by all appearances, is a doting father to their two young children, Jack Thomas, 5, and Maddie, 3.
And as the Broncos’ 33-year-old head coach, McDaniels has become an inspiration and role model to so many young adults.
Contrary to what 6.1 million viewers of the NFL Network heard him say to his penalty-prone offensive players Thanksgiving night, there is decency within the Broncos’ young head coach.
So when it hit him that so many people heard him use foul language early in the Broncos’ 26-6 victory against the New York Giants, McDaniels expressed regret.
“I want to make sure I apologize for anybody that was offended with the language that I used the other night on the sideline during the game,” McDaniels said during his news conference today. “I certainly didn’t intend for that to come across in that fashion. Hopefully that never happens again and I’ll try my best to make sure that it doesn’t from my end.
“I know that’s not the kind of example that I want to set or we want to set here with the Broncos’ organization and would ask people to accept that apology.”
The NFL Network apologized for inadvertently airing a taping of McDaniels’ sideline rant. His offense had just ruined a first-and-goal opportunity by committing three illegal procedure penalties. McDaniels was not aware the NFL Network could pick up his words, let alone have them replayed to viewers.
NFL Network executive producer Eric Weinberger apologized during the game for airing McDaniels’ profanity.
“It was an accident” Weinberger said Thursday night. “If you notice, it was at the end of the clip. It was a terrible mistake.”
