COLORADO SPRINGS — About 30 peace advocates rallied Tuesday night in Acacia Park to oppose sending more troops to Afghanistan, and another rally is set today at the Capitol.
President Barack Obama’s plan, announced Tuesday, has ramifications for troops at Fort Carson. Currently, 3,500 members of the 4th Brigade Combat team and 900 members of the 4th Engineer Battalion, both part of the 4th Infantry Division, are in Afghanistan. The 3,800 soldiers of the 1st Brigade Combat Team are likely to go there next year to serve as trainers and advisers to the Afghan army.
Today’s rally in Denver will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Broadway between Colfax and 14th avenues, west of the Capitol.
Thirty-three soldiers stationed at Fort Carson have been killed in Afghanistan, and 255 have died in Iraq. The Gazette
