BOULDER — Five Justice High School students were recovering Thursday after overdosing on prescription drugs that one student brought to class Wednesday, according to Boulder police.

Officers were called to the school — in the Boulder County Justice Center at 1777 Sixth St. — after noon Wednesday on a report that five students had overdosed on drugs and were throwing up, said Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley.

Police initially reported the medication was a painkiller, but officers now believe the students ingested an anti-inflammatory drug, Huntley said.

Justice High offers a program designed for “at-risk youth who are disconnected from the traditional school system because of juvenile delinquency, drugs and alcohol, alienation or other factors,” according to the Boulder Valley School District. Vanessa Miller, Daily Camera
