High temperatures along the Front Range today will struggle to climb out of the single digit range and snow is on tap for the mountains and plains.
Light snow is falling this morning in Denver as commuters set out and the temperature in Denver at 6 a.m. was a frigid 6 degrees.
Today’s high temperature in Denver may top out at 10 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, but the wind chill factor will make it feel more like -10 degrees at times in the city.
New snow accumulations in Denver today are likely to be between 3 and 5 inches, the weather service said. The chance of snow should diminish this afternoon and skies should start to clear out sometime after 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The overnight low tonight should be -2 degrees with a wind chill of -13.
A welcomed warming trend should start Wednesday in Denver under mostly sunny skies and with a high temperature near 21. Skies will be mostly clear on Thursday in the city with a high near 29, and weekend highs in the metro area should be in the mid-30s on Friday and up into the 40s on the Saturday and Sunday.
In the meantime, the system bringing cold weather and snow to Colorado is slowly moving to the east. Weather on the eastern plains today will be very cold and snowy, the weather service reports.
In the mountains today temperatures should climb into the 20s, but sub-zero readings will return overnight.
Wind chills today and tonight should continue to produce sub-zero readings throughout much of the state.
