Frigid, snowy weather is going to hang on along the Front Range and in the high country through at least mid-week.
In some parts of the mountains, and in the northern Front Range foothills, new snow accumulations today could be up to 12 inches by nightfall and temperatures, with wind chill factors, will be near or below zero is some areas of the state, according to the National Weather Service.
In Denver this morning light snow should continue to fall until about 8 a.m. and commuters should take extra precaution as some roads remain snow-packed and icy.
Temperatures in the metro area this morning, factoring the wind chill, will be around zero to -10 degrees, the weather service reports.
Denver’s high temperature today, without the wind chill, should be about 19 degrees, the weather service said. A 50 percent chance of new snow in the city today could bring about another inch or two of snow by day’s end, according to the weather service forecast.
Snow is likely in Denver and along the Front Range on Tuesday and the eastern plains could see up to five inches of new snow tomorrow, the weather service said.
Snow should continue to fall in the mountains through Wednesday before it tapers off a bit, but there remains a possibility of light snow in high country later in the week.
Colorado’s weather is expected to stabilize late in the week and some areas should see a return to seasonable temperatures by the weekend.
Weekend weather in Denver should be mostly sunny with high temperatures in the 40s, the weather service said.
