A 2-year-old child was injured in a two-vehicle accident when he was thrown from the vehicle he was riding in, police said.
The accident happened just after noon at the intersection of East Girard Avenue and South Havana Street, said Joe Ramirez, a Denver Police Department spokesman.
Police initially responded to a caller who reported the incident as an auto-pedestrian accident, but that was not the case, Ramirez said.
The child and his mother, the driver of the vehicle he was in, were taken to Swedish Medical Center. Both were treated for minor injuries and released.
Ramirez said the toddler was strapped into a restraint but it failed.
“The minor was ejected,” Ramirez said, but suffered only bruises.
The mother, who was not identified, was cited for careless driving, Ramirez said.
The driver of the other vehicle, who was not injured, was cited for driving without proof of insurance.
