WASHINGTON — A couple who crashed a White House state dinner had handed over a high-end watch to pay a landscaping debt, but a jeweler says it is a fake.
Tareq Salahi last week gave up his Patek Phillipe watch, which his lawyer said would be worth more than enough to pay a $2,000 debt to a landscaper. But Pennsylvania watch expert Ray Cosey examined the watch and said Thursday that it was an imitation, perhaps worth $100 and could probably be bought on the street for less.
Meanwhile, an attorney for the landscaper says a check was delivered Monday for $2,063.55 and will cover the bill. The Associated Press
