DEL NORTE, Colo.—A southern Colorado man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the death of a young mother last seen almost eight years ago.

Victor Braun was sentenced last week after leading police to the body of Danice Day, who was found in a barrel at the bottom of an Arizona lake. Braun was Day’s boyfriend when she was last seen leaving work in January of 2002.

Braun agreed to tell police where Day’s body was hidden in exchange for pleading to manslaughter.

The body of the 19-year-old mother of two was recovered last summer from Lyman Lake State Park, Ariz. A forensic pathologist said her body was burned before it was stuffed in the barrel and thrown in the lake. The cause of death remains undetermined.
