GOLDEN — No one was injured Tuesday when a fire inside a fireplace spread to the residence, causing extensive damage.
Firefighters were called by the homeowner about 9 a.m. to the 1200 block of Youngfield Street, according to the West Metro Fire Protection District.
The six people living in the damaged home are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The fire district said homeowners should have their fireplaces cleaned annually to avoid creosote build-up in chimneys and stovepipes.
