FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Fort Collins police officer and a suspect were both injured when gunfire erupted in the city’s west side.

Police spokeswoman Rita Davis says that shortly before midnight Friday two officers responded to a suspicious activity report and discovered an intruder in a residence.

She says there was an exchange of gunfire and the officer and the suspect both sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

They were being treated at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Allen Heaton was identified as the injured officer and police say 24-year-old Andrew Nardello is the suspect.
