GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Parachute man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for a crash that killed a woman and her infant daughter last year.

Twenty-year-old Derrick Maxfield said at his sentencing hearing Monday that he made a “shameful and irresponsible” decision to drive drunk following a party Feb. 28.

Prosecutors say Maxfield drove at high speeds and ran several red lights before striking a pickup truck driven by 23-year-old Luis Casiano. Casiano was injured. His 21-year-old wife, Shandi Boetel, and 6-month-old daughter, Natalia Casiano, were killed.

Maxfield pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and child abuse resulting in death.
