Avalanche captain Adam Foote has been sent back to Denver to have an injured ankle evaluated by team doctors.
Foote, 38, suffered the injury Friday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, after being tangled up with an opponent behind the net. He will not play tonight against the Buffalo Sabres, and appears doubtful for Monday’s important game at Calgary.
Avs defenseman John-Michael Liles, who missed the game with Carolina because of the flu, will return against Buffalo. Craig Anderson will start in goal for Colorado, which has lost two straight.
