PARACHUTE, Colo.—An oil and gas company says there’s no evidence that one of its wells was the source of spring water contamination that sickened a western Colorado man nearly two years ago.

Blake Roush of Williams Production RMT told Garfield County officials last week that no data has been found linking one of its wells to the contamination.

Ned Prather became ill after drinking water at a cabin northwest of Parachute in May of 2008. The water was found to contain benzene, a carcinogen that is a byproduct of oil and gas production.

The state Oil and Gas Conservation Commission says it isn’t yet known whether a Williams well is linked to the contamination.
