LEADVILLE, Colo.—Investigators are trying to determine the cause of an explosion and fire at a former Coca-Cola bottling plant that injured five people, including a firefighter.
Four people were sent to a hospital in Leadville. Lake County Sheriff’s deputy Steve James said a fifth person was flown to a hospital in Denver in critical condition.
Names and their medical condition were not released Saturday.
A series of small explosions happened while the fire burned. A heavily charred section of the building collapsed as firefighters dealt with temperatures that threatened to freeze the water in the hoses.
The former Coca-Cola building now included an auto repair shop, a towing company and a masonry business.
