Steamboat, with its small-town charm and its top national family ski rating, has opportunities right now you couldn’t find here a few years ago. You can see one right now, steps from a new ski gondola opening in early February, where a luxury lodge has ten of its most attractive units that have come back on the market.

Developers of Wildhorse Meadows are so sure you’re going to love the design of new Trailhead Lodge at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area, that they’ll host your family for an “experience package,” to let you “try before you buy.”

“This is a chance to get in before the gondola opens,” said Kerry Shea, director of sales, as we watched cars sail into Wildhorse’s gondola terminal. Yards away, we walked through some re-released units that came back after buyers couldn’t close, leaving deposits up to $251,000. Those are priced from a good-sized studio at $442,000 to a 3-bedroom residences at $1.4 million…each with stacked stone fireplaces, engineered walnut floors, kitchens that have thick granite-slab and alder cabinets…most with 5-piece marble master baths showing infinity tubs and glass showers with rain heads. Everything’s furnished: stainless appliances, even flat-screen TVs mounted in all bedrooms.

In a resort where many lodges are 30 years old, Trailhead Lodge was a fast seller in pre-sales. Wildhorse Meadows has seen over 100 families close; and when some deed-restricted condos moved to the open market in November, 17 sold within weeks. You have to see the lodge to appreciate the quality: the resort amenities with 25-meter lap pool, three grotto-style spas, an “Alpine Club” with ski valet service…and the uncommon beauty of Steamboat itself, luring airlines to fly here direct from six national markets, without going near DIA.

“This is a chance to see how Wildhorse Meadows captures the experience of Steamboat,” says Alexa Nachtweih. She’ll take your call…and see whether you’d prefer to ski with a former Olympian (sales agent Bobby Aldighieri)…or choose some other recreational experience unique to Steamboat. Like the Strings Music Pavilion, they’re all close to Wildhorse Meadows.
