DENVER—The mother of a Colorado inmate who died in jail has settled her lawsuit against Jefferson County challenging her son’s cause of death.
Court documents filed in U.S. District Court Friday show both parties reached a settlement and will file motions to dismiss the case by Feb. 15. Kathie Sims sued county officials last year, saying her son was killed by another inmate and did not commit suicide like authorities said on Nov. 1, 2005.
Sims alleged that her son, Anthony Sims, was strangled because he was accused of sexually assaulting a child. County officials maintained that they stood behind their findings.
The court documents did not reveal the details of the settlement. Sims’ lawsuit sought unspecified monetary damages.
