SAN FRANCISCO — Testimony ended Wednesday in a federal case challenging the constitutionality of California’s ban on same-sex marriage.

The trial included nearly 12 days of testimony on the meaning of marriage, the nature of sexual orientation and the role of religion in shaping attitudes about both.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker will review the evidence before hearing closing arguments, probably sometime in March.
